It was only a few days ago that I was crowing about resting on laurels for the last few days with the Self One-Month Makeover, but they’re pulling out the stops on Day Six and hitting me in a very uncomfortable place. Oh my hell, what did I get myself into?

Day Six: Build Up Sweat Equity

Make your exercise count, charitywise, by signing up for events such as the Avon Walk or Team in Training. If hoofing it doesn't appeal to you, volunteer as a water passer.

Awhile back, I wrote about the wish that fitness equipment made bread for the homeless, and lo and behold, until someone invents the StairMaster/Bread Kneader, this is as close as I’m going to get. After that post, Poppy sent me an e-mail suggesting that we set up an Elastic Waist team in training for an upcoming Breast Cancer walk or half marathon, and today while I was talking with Self editor Dana Points (watch for her awesome Q&A later today), she suggested that I organize some friends to work out and donate a small amount every time we meet to Care (and have our donations matched dollar for dollar by clicking on this link, doubling the goodness).

I think it’s a great idea! What about you guys? Are you with me? Suggestions and volunteers needed in the comments section! —Weetabix

So true that a workout buddy helps you get to the gym because there's someone counting on you. I also find that classes are good - once I'm in them there's a certain shame in quitting early so I slog through even if I look like an idiot (like the time I tried a highly choreographed step class).

I'm still up for a group event - I think it would be fun for those of us who are able to train for a specific event somewhere and then meet up and walk/run for a cause in Elastic Waist t-shirts as TEAM ELASTIC WAIST!
